Charles, thank you for your question and I hope this is a help to you.

I do not believe that the beasts of Revelation 13 are religions, but persons. The first beast is out of “the sea,” (Rev. 13:1, i.e. the gentile nations) and is the Revised Roman Empire and its king is the little horn of Dan. 7:8). The nation and its King are both called a Beast, and sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between the two.

The second beast is also a person and he comes out of “the land,” (Rev. 13:11) which represents Israel. He is also called the false prophet (Rev. 16:13; 19:20; 20:10).

All religions are destroyed by the ten kings. The Ten kings are represented by the toes of the fourth image of Daniel 2: Ten horns (Dan. 7:7) and in Rev. 17: John says that the woman (religion) that rides the beast is destroyed by the ten kings (Rev. 17:16). The ten kings give power to rule to the first beast, (Rev. 17:13, 17) the “little horn” of Daniel 7:8. The first beast sets himself up as God (II Thess. 2:4) and the second Beast is in league with the first beast. Both are energized by Satan.

There are two ways that he will cause the earth to worship the first beast (the head of the Revised Roman Empire). (1) He will be able to work miracles (Rev. 17:13-14; II Thess. 2:12) empowered by Satan as the first beast is (Rev. 13:3). He is using the two beasts to destroy Israel. Satan hates what God loves. (2) God will send strong delusion upon those that will not worship Him and they will believe the lie of the Beast (II Thess. 2:9-11).
